General Practice |
|
The General
Practitioners at Tawam dental Services provide
comprehensive general dentistry, family primary
care, restorative work and emergency dental care.
The patient’s
initial appointment at the dental center is
usually with a general practitioner and it comprises
of a comprehensive examination and treatment
planning. Subsequently, variable length,
appointments will be scheduled based on the needs of
the patient. General Practitioners will refer for
specialty care whenever
it is considered necessary.

Emergency Dental Care |

There is an emergency dental care
service which accepts and registers patient for treatment throughout
the day. Prioritization of cases is based on the time of arrival as
well as well as needs. |

On-Call System |
|
Tawam Dental Services
operate an on-call system which is usually activated
through the emergency department of Tawam Hospital.
After hours and weekends/holidays dental emergencies
are requested to report to Tawam Hospital Emergency
Department. |

Endodontics |
|
 |
Endodontic treatment encompasses
procedures that are designed to maintain the health of all, or part
of the pulp of the tooth. When the pulp is diseased or injured by
decay or trauma, the tooth is treated by root canal treatment. This
treatment is usually essential before restoring a badly decayed or
broken tooth. |

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology |
|
Tawam Dental Services
provides oral surgery services which includes
surgical extractions and other oral surgeries that
can be performed under local anesthesia. An Oral
Medicine specialist, forms a part of this division
and is responsible for diagnosis and treatment of
oral lesions, facial pain and pain related to the
jaw joint. |

Orthodontics |
|
 |
Orthodontics is a specialty that deals
with the treatment of malpositioned teeth and other dento-facial
deformities. Most cases are done in conjunction with other
specialties.
Due to a high demand for this service, a
treatment priority list based on the case severity has been
developed. Following an orthodontic consultation, patients who
are deemed to be suitable for this treatment will be assigned
to one of the 3 treatment priority lists
and will be called to start their treatment chronologically.
Prior to the start of the orthodontic treatment, all restorative
work must be completed and patients must show a high level of
compliance with oral hygiene.

Paediatric Dentistry |
|
Pediatric dentistry is
the specialty that provides comprehensive preventive
and therapeutic oral health care for infants and
children through adolescence, including those with
special health care needs. However, at Tawam Dental
Services, patients below the age of 10 years are
eligible to be referred by the general practitioners
to this specialty. Oral rehabilitation care under
general anesthesia is provided through Tawam
Hospital for patients who are medically and/or
mentally challenged. This division also offers
treatment under oral sedation or under general
anesthesia for patients who are apprehensive and can
not be effectively managed. Patients who need
general anesthesia are assigned to a waiting list
and must wait for their appointment to be treated at
Tawam Hospital. |

Periodontology and Preventive dentistry
|
|
 |
Periodontology is
a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diseases of gum and the
supporting structures of teeth. The majority of periodontal diseases
are chronic and in many cases painless and it is usually caused by
the bacteria. If not treated promptly, periodontal disease will
cause destruction of the tooth support structure which in turn will
lead to tooth/teeth loss. Therefore, diagnosis and treatment of the
periodontal disease is considered an important and a fundamental
step in the overall treatment of patient’s dental problems.
Periodontal disease may also aggravate other health problems
including cardio-vascular diseases, diabetes and maybe adversely
affect pregnancy outcome.
Tawam Dental
Services provides comprehensive periodontal disease diagnosis and
treatment services including non-surgical, surgical, and
reconstructive treatments. |

Prosthodontics |
|
Prosthodontics is a
dental specialty that provides treatments that
transform edentulous or partially edentulous jaws or
unhealthy, unaesthetic dentition into a comfortable,
healthy and esthetic one, by replacing missing teeth
and/or covering teeth in order to protect them or
enhance their esthetic.
The treatments are based
on proper and accurate identification of patient’s
needs. Following treatments are provided through
this division:

Treatment of fully
edentulous jaws with full removable prosthesis.

Treatment of
partially edentulous jaws with removable
prosthesis.

Treatment of
partially edentulous jaws with fixed prosthesis.

Dental Implant Services |
|
 |
Dental implants are metallic devices
(made mostly from Titanium metal usually mixed with other metals)
placed in the jaw bone to replace missing tooth/teeth. There are two
parts to this treatment: 1) surgical placement of the implant(s) 2)
placement of crown(s) on the implant following a period of healing.
Most implant cases are done by specialists including periodontists,
prosthodontist and oral surgeons.
There are many factors that are involved
in implant therapy therefore, not all patients who require
prosthetic treatment are suitable to receive dental implant. All
cases that maybe suitable for implant therapy are discussed in the
implant board prior to final approval.

Oral Radiology
|
|
This service provides
all necessary radiographic imaging which is needed
to support daily work at the dental services. Our
oral radiologist also will help to interpret and
report on the radiographs for any pathology or
disease as required by other clinicians. |

►
Dental Laboratory |
|
 |
An on-site technical
support system incorporating a fully equipped and integrated
Laboratory, enables Tawam Dental Services to be self sufficient in
its essential technical operations.
The Dental Laboratory
is able to fabricate all types of dental prostheses for the
comprehensive treatment of patients with wide ranging dental
needs.

Research
Projects |
|
Occasionally, there will
be clinical research projects that may benefit
patients with specific types of conditions. These
projects are approved by the Tawam Dental Services
Research Committee considering efficacy, safety and
ethical aspects of the project.
If a patient is a
suitable candidate for participation in the research
project, the clinician will inform him/her of the
nature of the project along with advantages,
disadvantages and possible risks. Subjects will be
given the option to choose whether to enroll in the
project. Participants in the research project will
have the right to withdraw from the project at any
time if
they are compelled to do so.

Tawam Dental Services does not
directly offer Maxillo-facial Surgeries. This service is
provided at Tawam Hospital and will be referred to as needed for
joint treatments.

Patients who require more advanced
imaging such as C.T. Scan are referred to Tawam Hospital,
supervised by a specialist in Oral Radiology

All necessary medical consultations
and medical laboratory work are also
carried out at Tawam Hospital
